Galloping through Gilgandra
Eumungerie was a nice spacious place, with refreshing cold showers. We met a family there travelling in a bus with more kids than us! We really enjoyed exploring some old buildings as there were several swings out the back. It was quite dry and dusty.

Great Gilgandra
“Town of the windmills in NSW”
Accessible by road along the Newell, Oxley and Castlereagh Hwys.
Our favourite camp spot:
Eumungerie Recreation Reserve (low $): 27km south of Gilgandra. Toilets and cold showers. As a family we found this to be a great place to stay. It was handy to travel to Dubbo and Gilgandra.
Places to visit:
Coo-ee Heritage and Visitor Centre ($): Has four galleries that illustrate historical aspects of the region. Newell Hwy, Gilgandra. Ph: 02 6817 8700.
Warrumbungle National Park ($): Long and short bush walks available. Ph: 02 6817 8700.
The Hitchen House Military Museum: Centre of town. A house where there are many historical displays of a military flavour. Josh (16) enjoyed this museum! Ph: 0438 226 020.
Gilgandra Skate Park: Newell Hwy. Situated in Hunter Park with parklands, play equipment, toilets and seats. There is a swimming pool ($) adjacent as well open during the swimming months. Our children enjoyed the swimming pool immensely even though the water was icy cold!
Rural Museum: Newell Hwy, Gilgandra. Ph: 02 6847 0806. A large range of farm and equipment displays.

Gilgandra Observatory ($): See the stars through a telescope! Wed to Sat 7pm to 10:30pm. Ph: 02 6847 0776.
Warrumbungle Scenic Route (free): This sealed alternate scenic route will take you to Coonabarabran via the historical village of Tooraweenah.
Gilgandra Speedway ($): Newell Hwy. Ph: 02 6847 1300. October to June.
Grandma's Dolls (free): Chelmsford Ave, Gilgandra. Open every day but only by appointment. Ph: 02 6847 1996.
